June Favorites

Hey everyone! Here’s what I’ve been obsessing over this month:

My absolute favorite moment:

My little bit graduated kindergarten this month! I couldn’t be prouder! Here he is with his teacher.

Best Book I Read this Month:

Unseen by Nancy Bush: Memory loss, twists and turns, and a mystery. What else could you ask for?

Movie of the Month:

Buffalo 66: A classic. If you haven’t seen it, see it now.

Show I couldn’t stop binge watching:

Orange is the New Black: Seriously, already can’t wait for season four.

Song/ Music Video I couldn’t stop playing:

Bitch, I’m Madonna: So many cameos, so many. Plus, has Madonna ever looked so hot?

Lip product I couldn’t live without:

Stila Evangeline: The perfect everyday lipstick!

Skin care my skin would actually miss:

Ceramidin Cream: The perfect moisturizer for any skin type. Where has this been all my life???

And that’s pretty much it for this month…

See everyone on Thursday with an exciting new post!

Mani Monday — June 29, 2015

Mani Monday

Happy Mani Monday!

This week I wanted something pink with just a touch of sparkle.

Here’s what I used:

  • Ruffian Nail Lacquer in Love to Love
  • LA Colors Color Craze nail polish in Sparkling Diamonds
  • Essie Matte About You

See you guys tomorrow with June Favorites!

*I received the Ruffian nail lacquer as a perk for working with Birchbox as a part of the Build Your Own Birchbox. This in no way affects my opinion of the product.

Bake up your Makeup — June 25, 2015

Bake up your Makeup

So I’m sure some of you have heard of “baking” or “cooking” your makeup. But for those of you who haven’t read along and you might find out something cool.

So, baking your makeup can be a cool trick with some great benefits. First, it can actually provide a little bit heavier of coverage than your foundation or concealer might usually provide. Second, it an actually help your makeup look better. While the product is sitting on your skin, it can actually blend with your natural oils. This means it will not break down or oxidize as much later.

So, I did a little pictorial to show you how to do it.

This is my makeup-less face. The only thing on my face is some moisturizer and primer.

Here I’ve roughly stippled some foundation on without blending whatsoever.

Here I’ve added some Nars creamy concealer in Custard to highlight.

Now I’ve added some cream blush.

And now some liquid highlighter.

Now you just wait for 5-10 minutes. I usually take this time to do my brows or a few dishes or something.

Then just take your damp beauty blender to blend everything out. Make sure to use some powder to set and finish the rest of your routine.

I will see you guys Saturday with a new Face of the Day post.

8th Grade Prom Makeup Look — June 23, 2015

8th Grade Prom Makeup Look

photo 1(1)

This is Chassidy. She is thirteen and was having an eighth grade prom. She wanted her makeup done, and after some thought, this is what we decided on.

This age can be really difficult as a client. You definitely have to decide early on where the line is and just not cross it. I decided it was best to give her flawless skin and a little bit more of a punched up everyday look since it was a special occasion.

Products I Used:

  • Benefit Porefessional
  • NYX HD Eyeshadow Base
  • Rimmel Stay Matte + Skinpure Complex Clarifying Matte Foundation
  • Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer
  • Physicians Formula Concealer Twins in Yellow/ Light
  • Anastasia Contour Kit
  • Nars blush in Orgasm
  • Physicians Formula Nude Wear Glowing Nude Bronzer
  • Urban Decay Naked 3 (Strange on brow bone, Limit in crease, Nooner in crease)
  • ELF Glitter Primer
  • LA Colors Shimmering Loose Eyeshadow in Radiant on lid
  • Wet n Wild Megalength Mascara
  • Estee Lauder High Gloss in Rose
  • City Color All Set Setting Spray

My Favorite Drugstore Foundations — June 18, 2015

My Favorite Drugstore Foundations

photo 1

I know there’s always a lot of hype over high end foundations, and believe me, I love some of them too, but you always need a good drugstore foundation in your kit. I like to use these mostly for more everyday makeup, and save my high end stuff for more special occasions. I’ve tested and tried tons of drugstore foundations, and these three are the ones I like to use myself. Keep in mind everyone has different  preferences and skin types, so what works great for me, might not be your thing.

photo 4

Rimmel London Stay Matte + Skinpure Complex Clarifying Matte Foundation: I originally bought this foundation because of the word (come on let’s say it together) matte.

The formula is pretty liquid, so definitely watch out for that. The first time I went to use this, I created a huge mess. So, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Coverage is definitely buildable. If you are looking for a more heavy coverage, this might not be for you. But I can definitely work it up to a decent heavier medium coverage.

Packaging is great. Slim bottle, so it’s easy to pack for travel. Plastic, so if you drop it, it’s not foundation armageddon.

No strange smell that kills me with some makeup. I mean, who wants to put something stinky or heavily perfumed all over their face. Not this girl.

No parabens if that’s important to you.

I have no problems with my sensitive skin with this. No break outs or anything.

Really is long wearing. Doesn’t oxidize on my skin. I always use a primer so keep that in mind.

I wouldn’t say I stay completely matte throughout the day. I do have to blot, but less than usual.

I looked online, and it seems like this might be discontinued. I might have to stock up on it. It is running. $6.99 on the Kmart website, so it really is affordable.

photo 3

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation: I originally picked this one up for two reasons. One, there’s a pretty impressive range of shades for a drugstore foundation. Two, there are corresponding concealers and powders that go with this.

No pump on this one, so that can be kind of a bummer.

Light to medium coverage, but definitely buildable.

Packaging is nice and sleek, but I hate the glass bottle. If I drop this one on my tile floor, it’s pretty much game over.

No harsh smells.

Does contain parabens, so might not be right fit for everyone.

Doesn’t break me out.

Long wearing and only one or two touch ups needed through out the day.

About $6-$7.

Tip: I also really love the stick form of this foundation for contouring.

photo 2

L’Oreal Infallible Pro Matte 24H Foundation: Honestly, with this one I wanted to see what the hype was all about.

Medium to full coverage, also slightly buildable, although I don’t think you’ll need to.

Packaging is super sleek and plastic. I love it.

No funky odors.

Lasts all day without touch ups.

Nice demi matte finish for a natural look.

Tip: You can read my original review on this one here.

That’s it for today guys! What are your top drugstore foundations?

See you guys on Saturday with a new makeup look!

Would you rather tag — June 16, 2015

Would you rather tag

I saw this tag on The Makeup Honey Blog and it looks really fun, so I thought I would give it a go! Let’s jump right in!

1. Would you rather go out with messy hair and nice makeup or nice hair and no makeup?

Messy hair. No question. I think it’s much easier to look cute with a messy bun than with under eye circles and no brows.

2. Would you rather shave your eyebrows or have your eyelashes fall out?

Oooooh….. toughie. I guess brows. I could always draw them on right?

3. Would you rather be forced to shop at only MAC or Sephora for the rest of your life?

Sephora if I had to choose. I love MAC and I love Sephora, but atleast I can choose some of my other favorite brands at Sephora.

4. Would you rather wear lipgloss/lipliner look or 80’s perm?

Lipgloss and liner. I mean, a perm you are pretty much stuck with.

5. Would you rather leave the house with an obvious foundation line or overdone blush?

Overdone blush. No one, and I mean no one should have an obvious foundation line. It’s just plain tragic.

6. Would you rather wear MC Hammer pants or biker shorts in public?

MC Hammer pants. I mean biker shorts… just ewwwww!

7. Would you rather have a bad orange-y spray tan or really weird tan lines that can’t be covered?

Really weird tan lines. I would much rather have strange tan lines than look like an Oompa Loompa.

8. Would you rather have a bad haircut or bad hair color?

Bad color. At least it could be fixed. Most bad cuts just have to be grown out.

9. Would you rather have youtube or instagram taken away forever?

YouTube. As much as I love it, the beauty community on IG is amazing!

10. Would you rather give up using makeup brushes or mascara?

Makeup brushes. I look ridiculous without mascara. Plus I could probably get used to using my fingers for at least most makeup products.

11. Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?

Oh crap. Nail polish. Nail polish is something fun for me, but makeup is something I’m passionate about.

12. Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?

Summer clothes in winter. I think I’d rather be cold than hot. But then again, I haven’t lived a full winter here in New York yet.

13. Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?

One lipstick. I love lippies, but at least I could rock a classic red lip for any season or occasion.

14. Would you rather chop all of your hair off or never be able to cut it again?

Chop it all off. It would grow out, and it doesn’t say you would have to keep it that way. 🙂

I tag Apoorva over at That Weird Girl Official to do this one!

See you guys Thursday!
