May 2016 Beauty Favorites (and other stuff)

Hey! It’s time for my May favorites! Here’s what I’ve been obsessing over this month:

The show I can’t wait for every week: of course, Game of Thrones. I won’t spoil anything for you here, but it’s already been a great season.

The movie that was least disappointing this month: The 5th Wave. I know that’s not saying a lot. I do think if I hadn’t read the book it would have been a better movie. But like always, the book was better.

The show I’ve been binge watching on Netflix: Scrubs. I can’t get enough. It’s kind of sad, really.

Face Primer I Couldn’t Put Down: NYX Fist Base Primer Spray. It’s very refreshing when you apply it, and it leaves a nice canvas for my art!

The Brush That’s Changes My Routine: Ricky Care Foundation Perfecting Brush. While I do think this brush is pretty good for foundation application, it’s pure genius kicks in for highlighting and contouring. It leaves a perfect under cheekbone contour that’s not to sharp.

The other thing I’ve been loving for contouring: Jouer Perfector in Tan. This blends like a dream. I only wish it was slightly cooler in tone, but it’s still magical.

The setting spray that’s saved my life: I’ve had some difficulty getting my hands in my go to setting spray this month, Ben Nye Final Seal, but Bairly Sheer Airbrush Cosmetics Spray-On Makeup Sealant has really pulled through for me. Getting used to the aerosol is a little bit of a challenge, but it does seem to work. I really do miss the slight cooling effect of Final Seal, though.

The surprisingly “I’m late to the game” product: Maybelline Color Tatto Metal by Eyestudiob24HR Eyeshadow in Silver Strike. I know. I’m super late on loving this. But I cannot tell you how glad I am that I finally picked this up. Here’s a swatch:

The Amazing Correctors/Concealers I’ve been loving: NYX HD Concealers. I recently grabbed these in a couple of colors and I’m loving how light they feel in. They also blend great. Now, if you have anything to crazy to cover up, these probably won’t do, but for everyday they are wonderful.

The lip product I’ve rediscovered: JCat Wonder Lip Paint in Mad Splatter. This is one thing I hate when I end up buying too much stuff. I forget how amazing some I already own is. This color is fun, and it wears well without drying out my lips. Here’s a swatch:

The moment I couldn’t have lived without: spending Mother’s Day with this little monkey. I’m lucky enough that he treats me special every day, but he really goes out of his way on Mothers Day!

What were you obsessed with this month?

Mani Monday — May 30, 2016

Mani Monday

Happy Mani Monday! I got a little crazy this week. Please excuse my overly oiled cuticles, the have just been extremely neglected lately.

I started with a coat of Strong Adhesion Base Coat on each nail.

I followed that with two coats of Floss Gloss Pro Nail Lacquer in Lavish.

I then used a coffee stirrer and splattered on some Floss Gloss Pony, Lean and Wet.

I tipped it all off with a coat of China Glaze Fast Forward Top Coat.

I’ll see you tomorrow!

Face of the Day  — May 28, 2016

Face of the Day

Hey! So this started out as sort of an experiment, but even though it didn’t turn out the way I imagined it would, I decided to share the results with you anyway. Here’s how I achieved this look:

  • Sigma e55 to apply Kiko Cosmetics Infinity Eyeshadow in 234 on lid

  • Sigma e65 to apply JCat Wonder Lup Paint in Red Potion as eyeliner

  • Ricky Care Foundation Perfecting Brush to apply Dermablend Professional Covet Creme in Natural Beige
  • E.L.F. Cosmetics Contour Brush and Morphe B75 to contour using Tata Harper Very Bronzing Bronzer
  • Bare Escentuals Max Coverage Concealer Brush to apply highlight using Jouer Perfector in Creme
  • A Beauty Blender to blend everything together
  • Sigma f30 to set everything with NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder
  • Morphe e7 to add some color with NARS Laguna
  • Sigma f40 and Morphe m322 to powder contour using NARS Paloma
  • Sigma f15 to add some blush from NARS in Dolce Vita
  • Real Techniques Multi Tasking Brush to seamlessly blend all the powders
  • Sigma e75 to touch up and define brows even more using Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Medium Brown

May 2016 Haul — May 24, 2016

May 2016 Haul

Hey! It’s time for my May Haul! Here’s what I picked up this month:

Ricky Care Foundation Perfecting Brush: a knock off the the Artis Brushes of fame, this one packs a punch for a great price. Super dense, so you don’t lose a lot of product, and super soft on your skin.

Kiko Cosmetics Pigment Loose Eyeshadow in 13: beautiful. Long lasting. Here’s a swatch:

Kiko Cosmetics Infinity Eyeshadow in 234: a warm wine shade. Super buttery. Here’s a swatch:

Kiko Cosmetics Infinity Eyeshadow in 212: a warm brown shade. Also super buttery. Here’s a swatch:

Bairly Sheer Spray On Makeup Sealant: I originally picked this up because I couldn’t get my hands on my holy grail setting spray, Ben Nye Final Seal, but this has pretty good lasting power. I do miss the cooling effect of Final Seal, though.

Maybelline Face Studio Master Fix Setting Powder: a basic drugstore setting powder. Nothing special.

NYX First Base Primer Spray: I love this. It leaves a tacky like finish that holds makeup really well, and isn’t too heavy on my oily skin.

ELF Cosmetics Eyebrow Enhancer in Deep Brown: I’ll admit I’m kind of disappointed in this. I love a lot of ELF products, but I really missed my Anastasia Brow Definer the day I tried to use this. Here’s a swatch:

NYX Concealer Wands in Yellow and Light: great for highlighting and concealing under eye circles. Here’s some swatches:

Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Metal 24 HR Cream Gel Shadow in Silver Strike: super creamy and pigmented. Here’s a swatch:

Styli-Style The Stylus Liquid Eyeliner: I got this for two reasons. It was on sale, and I had seen great reviews. I’ll be honest, I found it kind of disappointing. Here’s a swatch, where you can see it bled quite a bit, even without any water interacting.

Creative Image Adore Shining Semi Permanent Hair Color in Mahogany: this is a temporary fix, until I decide what color I actually want my hair this go around. I haven’t used it yet, so we’ll see.
And that’s all I have for you! See you Thursday!

Mani Monday — May 23, 2016

Mani Monday

Happy Mani Monday! This week I created a pretty whimsical spring themed mani.

I started with Sally Hansen Triple Strong Strenthener.

Next I painted my ring fingers with LA Colors Color Craze nail polish in Seashell.

All the other fingers got a couple coats of Sinful Colors Professional nail polish in Wonder Mint.

Next I felt like my ring fingers needed a little more sparkle, so I added some LA Colors Art Deco Nail Art Lacquer in Gold Glitter.

For the flowers, I used both Cover Girl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Everbloom and LA Colors Art Deco Nail Art Lacquer in White.

For the leaves, I used LA Colors Color Craze nail polish in Current.

I topped it all off with Sinful Colors Sinful Shine Top Coat.

I’ll see you tomorrow!

Face of the Day — May 21, 2016

Face of the Day

I was recently at a Kiko Cosmetics store and grabbed some new things which inspired this look for you. Here’s what I did:

  1. I prepped my skin using Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer.
  2. I prepped my eyelids using NYX High Definition eyeshadow base.
  3. I planned out my brow shape using Anastasia Brow Definer in Dark Brown.
  4. Using a Sigma e40 I applied the peach shade from the Coastal Scents Glamour Eyes palette as a transition shade.
  5. Using a Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush I put some of the navy blue shade from the same pallette in my crease.
  6. Using a Sigma e55 I packed some Kiko Cosmetics Pigment Loose Eyeshadow in 13 on to my eyelids.
  7. Using that same brush and the palette from before, I applied some of the lavender color to the center of my eyelids.
  8. I then applied some Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner in Indigo to my tight line and waterline.
  9. I used some Eyeko Fat Liquid eyeliner in Black.
  10. I darkened my lashes with Clinique High Impact Mascara.
  11. I used Duo Eyelash Adhesive to put on some Violet Voss lashes in Black Magic.
  12. I used my Ricky Care Foundation Perfecting Brush to blend out some Dermablend Professional Cover Creme in Natural Beige.
  13. Using both the ELF Cosmetics Contour Brush and the Morphe B75 I contoured using Tata Harper Very Bronzing Bronzer.
  14. I cream highlighted using a Bate Escentuals Max Coverage Concealer Brush and some Jouer Perfector in Creme.
  15. I then blended everything way out using a Beauty Blender.
  16. To set everything I used a Sigma F30 and some NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder.
  17. To warm up my complexion a tiny bit, I put on some NARS Laguna using a Morphe e7.
  18. I also powder contoured using a Sigma F40 and a Morphe m322 and NARS Paloma.
  19. For some cheek color I used Jouer Powder Blush in Peony with a Sigma F15.
  20. I then blended til my hand almost fell off with a Real Techniques Multi Tasker Brush.
  21. To finish off my brows, I used a Sigma e75 to apply some Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Medium Brown.
  22. For my lips I kept it simple with some Clinique Super Balm Moisturizing Llipgloss in Lilac.
  23. Then I set everything with my setting spray of life, Ben Nye Final Seal Matte Makeup Sealer.

I’ll see you for Mani Monday!

Mani Monday — May 16, 2016

Mani Monday

Happy Mani Monday!

Like usual, I started with a coat of China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat.

Next, I did two coats of Floss Gloss Pro Nail Lacquer in Lavish on my ring fingers. On the remaining four fingers, I did two coats of Floss Gloss Lean.

I used that same shade to create little blobs that would become the center of the cheetah spots.

To do those weird shaped lines outlining (kind of) around the cheetah, I used a nail art brush and a bit of L.A. Colors Color Craze Nail Polish with Hardeners in Nuclear Energy.

I topped it all off with a coat of China Glaze Fast Forward Top Coat.

I’ll see you tomorrow!

Face of the Day — May 14, 2016

Face of the Day

Hey! Happy Saturday! Here’s the look I came up with for you this week.

I started with the NYX High Definition Eyeshadow Base. I then prepped my face with Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer.

I then used my new RickyCare Foundation Perfecting Brush to apply Jouer Perfector in Ivory to the areas of my face that I wanted to highlight.

For contouring, I used my ELF Cosmetics Contour Brush and Morphe B75 to apply Tata Hatper Very Bronzing Bronzer.

I then used my RickyCare Foundation Perfecting Brush again to apply some Jouer Perfector In Natural to some areas that needed a little concealing.

Then I used a damp Beauty Blender to blend any harsh edges.

I set all that with NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder using a Sigma F30 brush.

For some color, I used my Morphe E7 to apply some NARS Laguna. I also used a Sigma F40 and a Morphe M322 to apply some NARS Paloma. For a nice flush, I used a Sigma F15 to add some NARS blush in Robotic to my cheeks. Then I blended until my hand almost fell off with a Real Techniques Multi Tasker Brush.

I planned out my brow shape using an Anastasia Brow Definer in Dark Brown. Next, I took a Sigma E75 to fill them in and define them with Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Medium Brown.

Now on to the Morphe 35O palette. I’ll try to keep it as simple as possible.

  • Sigma E40 to apply D2 as a transition shade
  • Sigma E55 to apply F2 to my lids
  • ELF Cosmetics eyeshadow brush to apply A1 to my brow bone

Next I grabbed my Wet n Wild Color Icon Art in the Streets palette. I used a Sigma E30 to apply some of the green near my tear ducts. I also applied some of the yellow to that area using my Real Techniques Accent Brush.

For liner I used Malibu Glitz Intense Color Waterproof Eyeliner in Sky Blue.

To complete the look I added some Clinique High Impact mascara and Maybelline Shiny-licious lipgloss in Cinnamon Apple.

I’ll see you for Mani Monday!
