June 2016 Favorites

Hey! It’s time to share what I was obsessing about all month!

Best moment: Aidan’s class had a field day picnic this month, and we basically got to picnic and play at our local park all day! Here’s a picture of him with his best friend.

Binge worthy: of course. Orange is the New Black. Is there anything else on?

The new show that took me by surprise: Animal Kingdom. Although, let’s be honest, I probably would have enjoyed it anyway, if for nothing else but Scott Speedman.

How I kept my skin feeling fresh: Savvy Travelers Take Offz. Basically micellar water plus aloe in a wipe form. Great for nights when I just want to crawl into bed quick.

How I kept my hair in good condition: Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning mask. Ah-mazing. No other words.

Lashes I couldn’t keep off my peepers: Violet Voss Limited Edition lashes in Eye Donut  Care. I’m already a huge fan of the brand, and they just keep coming at me strong. Just take all my money now!

The lip that kept finding its way on to my face: Violet Voss in Haze. Once again, just take all my money. Here’s a swatch:

How I kept my head up: this necklace from Mandee really changed my month. Anytime I felt blah or was having a crappy day, I threw this on, felt like a queen and my whole outlook changed.

The smell that gave me life: if I could only choose one smell for the rest of my life, it would be this Henri Bendel for Victoria’s Secret Cashmere Candle!

And that’s all for the month! What were you obsessed with?

June 2016 Haul — June 28, 2016

June 2016 Haul

Hey guys! It’s time for my June Haul! Let’s jump right in!

Clairol Soy 4 Plex Activator Creme in 30 Volume: I have a lot of hair dying projects coming up, so I grabbed this big bottle. Stay tuned to see how it all turns out!

Wella Permanent Liquid Haircolor Additive in 050 Cooling Violet: along with some of those hair coloring projects, I wanted to cool my hair way down, and this worked perfectly.

Wella Permanent Liquid Haircolor in 5A/246 Light Ash Brown: so this is the color I ended up using. I had to use FOUR boxes!!!

Ricky Care Soft Touch Color Tint Brush: just a basic color brush I needed.

BH Cosmetics Ultimate Lips 28 Color Lipstick Palette: gorgeous and well pigmented.

BH Cosmetics Professional Blush 10 Color Blush Palette: some great bronze and pink tones here.

BH Cosmetics Glamorous 10 Color Blush Palette: I love that there was a red shade included here. Also loving the bright pink in the bottom center.

Tony Moly I’m Real Red Wine Mask Sheet for Pore Care: I’ll be honest here. I mostly grabbed this because it said red wine. But hey, a girl loves a sheet masks and wine, what can I say?

Violet Voss Limited Edition Faux Mink Lashes in Eye Donut Care: obsessed! The band is pretty thick, but I deal with it, because the lashes are to die for! I no longer have to double up my lashes, because these are already super glamorous!
And that’s all for today! I’ll see you on Thursday with my favorites for the month!

How I Cooled Down My Hair Color — June 21, 2016

How I Cooled Down My Hair Color

So, if you remember, I’ve had a warm, red undertone to my hair for a while now. Probably as long as this blog has been around, as a matter of fact. Because I have some changes planned for my hair soon, I wanted to cool the color down and try to diminish some of the red undertone. Here’s what I did:

I started the day before by washing my hair. I used a super hydrating shampoo and conditioner, since I knew I would be coloring it the next day, and I wanted to start with my hair in the best condition.

Then this morning I gathered my supplies:

  • Garbage bag: to lay across the sink in case of spills
  • 2 grocery bags: one to collect the trash and one to use on head like a shower cap while the color develops. I have tried using shower caps, but I just have a ton of hair.
  • Bowl: to mix the dye in
  • Brush: both to stir and apply. Some find an applicator bottle easier, but it’s personal preference
  • Wella Color Charm Permanent Liquid Hair Color in 5A/246 Light Ash Brown: I need four boxes. I also went lighter because my hair always colors way darker than what I want or expect.
  • Wella Color Charm Permanent Liquid Hair Color Additive in 050 Cooling Violet: this will help fight any of the red I have going one. Some people have been using this as a toner to achieve granny gray hair lately also.
  • Clairol Professional Soy 4 Plex Activator 30 Volume: I chose a 30 volume to help cover up the greys o have. Yes. It’s true. (Sob!)
  • Gloves: this should be obvious
  • Hair Clips: to help separate hair into sections

Then I mixed everything together. 1:2 ration of color to developer plus the additive. Then basically I slapped it on starting at the ends and working on the roots last. I let it simmer for 45 minutes, then rinsed well and conditioned.

Here’s how it turned out:

Darker than what I wanted, but definitely cooler.

I am not a hair professional, but I did think this might help some people who wanted to accomplish this.

I’ll see you Saturday with a Face of the Day post.

Mani Monday — June 20, 2016

Mani Monday

Happy Mani Monday! I’ve brought you a rainbow nail art look this week.

I started with a base coat of China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat.

The gold nails are two coats of LA Colors Color Craze nail polish in Golden Treasure topped with one coat of Pure Ice  nail polish in Endless Fortune.

The rainbow nails are as follows:

  • Red: Revlon ColorStay Long Wear nail enamel in Delicious
  • Orange: Sinful Colors Professional nail polish in Hazard
  • Yellow: Ciate nail polish in Loop the Loop
  • Green: Ciate nail polish in Ditch the Heels
  • Blue: Cover Girl Outlast Stay Brilliant nail gloss in Out of the Blue
  • Purple: Cover Girl Outlast Stay Brilliant nail gloss in Vio-last

I used regular old scotch tape to separate the colors. I finished it off with a coat of China Glaze Fast Forward Top Coat.

Stay tuned for a rainbow inspired makeup look!

Face of the Day — June 18, 2016

Face of the Day

Hey! Today I brought you something a little more colorful. Let’s jump right in!

I started by prepping my skin with Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer and my eyes with NYX High Definition Eye Shadow Base.

I then grabbed my trusty Sigma 3DHD Kabuki brush and applied some Maybelline Fit Me Foundation. I also did some color correction and concealing using NYX HD Concealers in Yellow and Light. I then blended all that in with my Beauty Blender.

Time to set all that cream! I used my Sigma f30 to pack on some Maybelline Master Fix by Face Studio Setting and Perfecting Loose Powder. Then to add a little warmth I used a Sigma f40 to put on some NARS Laguna. I also decided to do a little light contouring using an E.L.F. Cosmetics Contour Brush and NARS Paloma.

Next, I added a little flush with a Sigma f15 and some Jouer Powder Blush in Peony. I then basically blended until I thought my elbow would break using my Real Techniques Multi Tasking Brush.

Then it was time to move on to the eyes.

I grabbed my Sigma e75 to fill in and define my almost non existent brows using Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Medium Brown.

Then I used a Sigma e40 to slap some Stila eyeshadow in Puppy on as a transition shade. As a crease color, I used that same Jouer Powder Blush in Peony from before with a Real Techniques Domed Shadow Brush.

To define that crease just a smidge more, I used a Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush to add some NYX Blush in Pinched just in the outer crease area.

Now for the best part! I grabbed my e.l.f. Cosmetics Glitter Primer and smeared it along my lids and lower lash line. Then I used a Sigma e55 to pop some LA Colors Shimmering Loose Eyeshadow in Lollipop on the lids and a Real Techniques Accent Brush to add some Violet Voss Glitter in Teresa to the lower lash line.

I also highlighted my brow bone using Jouer Powder Eyeshadow in Praline and an e.l.f. Cosmetics Eyeshadow Brush.

Then I set everything using Bairly Sheer Airbrush Cosmetics Spray-On Makeup Sealant.

I finished off the look with some Chanel Le Bolume de Chanel mascara and some Violet Voss Liquid Lipstick in Wasted.

I’ll see you for Mani Monday!
